Install WordPress on your own PC - try before you buy (your hosting)!

In my previous post I said that I was using WordPress to power this blog and am using my own hosting and domain name.
One thing I didn’t mention is that it is possible to have a play around with WordPress before taking the big leap and spending some hard earned cash on a domain name and hosting.
You can install WordPress on your own PC and play around with it to your hearts content! I did this first and I promise you, if you do the same you’ll fall In love with Wordpress just like I did.
I hunted and hunted and found this post here one of the only ones I could understand. There were a couple of things that I couldn’t get to work - the mod_rewrite section, and the password in the MySQL and phpMyAdmin, but I skipped them, and it didn’t make any difference to how it operated. There is now a newer version of Wampserver so the screen shots are a little different. When I got to the end I found this post really helpful in finally getting it working. It didn’t take long and I now have 6 sites in test mode all on my PC.
I can try out themes, plugins, write posts, and generally configure everything before putting it in the live environment. I make all my mistakes in private - hopefully anyway!
If you do have any questions I might be able to answer them - but I’m not technical in anyway!!
So go and install WordPress on your PC and you’ll find yourself having a whole load of fun - and if you get really stuck - why not read this ;-).
If you enjoyed this post, you might also enjoy these!
