So have I tempted you with WordPress?

If you managed to install WordPress on your own PC or even if you’ve taken the plunge and dived straight into the online community, then congratulations, !  Now you can enter the world of themes, plugins and customisations.

For this blog I am using a free theme.  I knew I wanted to use a three-column theme because I liked the layout and because I wanted to make use of the sidebars.  I was also intending to use Google’s adsense so I wanted one that was adsense ready - even though I’ve now decided against it.

So I googled and googled and googled again and it wasn’t until I was reading about creating WordPress themes in Dreamweaver, over at Justdreamweaver.com when I decided to have browse around, and came across their UltimateBlogger theme.  It lookd just that little bit different, and what’s more they said they could send out the original Fireworks  file to make a new colour scheme.

Now, there’s nothing wrong with grey and black - but it’s not really me - I like pink.  So inspired by an image I found on Istockphoto.com I set about changing the colour scheme to my liking.  And I’m pretty proud of what I’m come up with.  If you google “UltimateBlogger theme by The Dreamweaver Blog” you’ll find lots of original grey and black ones - but not many pink!  So thanks guys for sending over the file.

There are hundreds and hundreds of free themes about, but if you fancy some “premium” themes then my recommendation would be to try Brian Gardner’s Revolution theme.  I love them and have the whole developers package - ready for use on my affiliate sites.  They are easy to work with and the support forum is fantastic.  If I’ve ever had a problem getting something sorted the forum is the place and have received a solution every time.  Check them out here.  Now Brian recently announced that his themes are going open source (free in other words) but that they will charge for support and customisation in various packages from 1st November 2008, so if you want one of these particular Revolution themes then buy them now before they are taken off the market.
